Parks and Recreation Advisory Board

On Aug. 5, 2024, the Evans City Council voted to create the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. This body will be comprised of five (5) citizen volunteers who are appointed by the City Council to two-year and three-year terms at initial inception in order to stagger membership, and three-year terms subsequently thereafter. The board will be tasked with serving in an advisory capacity to the City Council on all aspects of the City’s park, open space, trails and recreation offerings and plans for the future. The board will meet on X of the month at 6:00 p.m. at the Evans Community Complex Council Chambers. 

Parks and Recreation Advisory Board:

Brian Behrens (three-year term)
Natalee Gonzalez (three-year term)
Willard Kendall (two-year term)
Josh Pickering (two-year term)
Victoria Steelman (three-year term)

The duties and responsibilities of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board include:

  1. To act in an advisory capacity to the City Council and the Department of Parks and
    Recreation regarding matters relating to parks and recreation including, but not
    limited to, the City of Evans Park System Master Plan, the Trails and Open Space
    Master Plan, and park and recreation facility rules, policies, and regulations.
  2. To formulate advisory recommendations relating to outside activities utilizing City
    parks and recreational facilities.
  3. To advise the City Council and the Department of Parks and Recreation regarding
    procurement of land and development plans, both present and future, concerning
    parks, trails, recreational areas and recreational or natural open space within the
    City.
  4. To develop and recommend advisory criteria for recreational facilities and
    programming.
  5. To advise, develop and recommend rules and regulations for the Evans Cemetery.
  6. The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board shall not have any authority over matters
    which are within the authority and purposes of the Evans Planning Commission
    and nor shall the Advisory Board have the authority to make any binding
    recommendations.
