Trash and Recycling Bill

Evans Residents to receive one bill for trash, recycling services.

Beginning January 1st, 2019, many Evans’ residents will notice their optional services for additional poly carts and recycling bill combined into their regular utility bill from the City. If you paid your last quarterly Waste Management bill for services through December, you will see these charges now on your January City utility bill. If you paid your last quarterly Waste Management bill for services through January, you will see these charges now on your February City utility bill. After January, all residents should receive one bill from the City for trash, recycling and utilities. The goal is to reduce the number of bills that residents needs to pay. Please note: those services will still be optional. They can be added or canceled at any time.

To provide Evans’ residents with convenient, accurate, and courteous customer service, the City is making an additional improvement to the refuse service. Starting in January, residents will call the City of Evans at 970-475-1170 with any refuse-related requests. Currently, Waste Management handles all customer service issues, but the City believes it can provide improved customer service to its residents by handling the calls directly.

Waste Management plans to pass along contractually allowed increases to the City of Evans for trash and recycling service in 2019. Residents will notice the largest increase is for optional recycling service. According to Waste Management, dramatic changes in the recycling industry related to recycling stream contamination have caused a sharp decline in the value of recyclables. That has forced them to slow down their sort lines and meet new purity standards established by China in January of 2018. The changes have resulted in increased processing costs. Additionally, Waste Management has increased staff to handle the recycling sort lines that separate trash from recyclables.

The new rates for refuse services are outlined below:

Residential Trash – 1st Poly Cart

$12.25 per residential unit per month

Optional Residential Trash – 2nd Poly Cart

$6.11 per residential unit per month

Optional Residential Recycling

$9.54 per residential unit per month
