The Building Division staff maintains building codes and ordinances, properly interprets the City's building codes, conducts thorough plan reviews, and inspects new building construction and renovation. Building safety is supported by licensing all businesses and general contractors that work within the City.

We currently follow the 2018 I-Codes, along with the 2023 NEC as adopted by the State of Colorado.

License Requirements and Applications

Contractors are required to have a current business license to work in the City of Evans. Please contact our Business and Sales Tax Specialist at (970) 475-1109 for further information.

Plumbing and electrical contractors must provide their state license numbers on each permit application.

General Contractors are required to have a current business license regardless of where your business is located. Please fill out the following form and it can be returned to our Finance Department by mail or in person along with the payment of $25 payable with cash or check, credit cards are not accepted. Please call our business and sales tax license specialist with business license relate questions at (970) 475-1109.

If your business is home-based, you must also complete the Home Occupation Certificate Form.
